EPA Grant Will Help Reduce School Bus Emissions in Austin Area

Capital Area Council of Governments to receive more than $190,000
(Dallas, Texas – September 10, 2008) The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has awarded $193,700 to the Capital Area Council of Governments to retrofit 108 school buses with EPA-certified technologies as a means of reducing harmful air toxins and carcinogens.
The project will retrofit 98 traditional, diesel-powered buses with diesel oxidation catalyst/closed-crankcase ventilation systems. The remaining ten buses will be retrofitted with diesel multi-stage filters and closed-crankcase ventilation systems. The Capital Area Council of Governments is scheduled to complete the retrofitting process by November 30, 2009.
