EPA ADMINISTRATOR BROWNER CELEBRATES 20TH ANNIVERSARY OF SUPERFUND IN PHILADELPHIA ON DEC. 7

On Dec. 7, EPA Administrator Carol M. Browner will join leaders from Congress, states, industry, and the environmental community in celebrating the 20th anniversary of Superfund. Invited speakers include former New Jersey Governor and Congressman Jim Florio, who was instrumental in creating the Superfund law, and representatives from industry, states and environmental organizations.

The current $1.4 billion Superfund program was enacted by Congress on December 11, 1980 to clean up hazardous waste disasters across the country. To date, 1450 toxic waste sites are either complete or undergoing cleanup. The program also has responded to more than 6400 environmental emergencies such as chemical spills and explosions at chemical warehouses. From the North (New York City, northern New Jersey):

NJ Turnpike South to exit 4 (Camden/Philadelphia). Stay to the right through the toll booths, and take Route 73 North to Route 38 West. Proceed on Route 38 West to Route 30 West. Continue on 30 West to the Benjamin Franklin Bridge. Proceed across the bridge staying in the center lane to I-676 (West/Central Philadelphia). Proceed on I-676 West for one mile to the Broad Street exit. At the end of the exit ramp make the first left onto Vine Street/Local Traffic. Proceed on Vine Street three traffic lights to 12th Street. Make a right onto 12th Street and proceed three blocks to Filbert Street. The hotel will be on the right corner of 12th and Filbert Streets.

From the South (D.C., Baltimore, Philadelphia Airport):

I-95 North to exit 17 (I-676 West/Central Philadelphia). Follow I-676 West for one mile to the Broad Street exit. At the end of the ramp make the first left onto Vine Street/Local Traffic. Proceed on Vine Street three traffic lights to 12th Street. Make a right onto 12th Street and proceed three blocks to Filbert Street. The hotel will be on the right corner of 12th and Filbert Streets.
