PRESS ADVISORY: NEW ENGLAND EPA ADMINISTRATOR TO VISIT CONNECTICUT ON APRIL 7

BOSTON - John P. DeVillars, EPA's New England Administrator, will be in Connecticut on Wednesday, April 7, to announce a major initiative that will dramatically improve the public's access to water quality data for Long Island Sound. DeVillars will announce the program at a press conference 1 p.m. at the Bridgeport Regional Vocational Aquaculture School.

Other speakers at the event will include: Arthur Rocque, commissioner of the Connecticut Department of Environmental Protection, John Atkin, president of Save the Sound Inc.; and Richard Cooper, director of the Marine Science and Technology Center at the University of Connecticut, which is a major partner in the initiative.

Also on April 7, DeVillars will tour various Brownfields sites in Bridgeport and Naugatuck Valley. Press are invited to join DeVillars on his tour. U.S. Rep. Jim Maloney and Commissioner Rocque are also scheduled to tour the Naugatuck area with DeVillars.

DeVillars' schedule for the day will be as follows:

• 10:30 am: Meet at Derby Train Station and bus to O'Sullivan's Island.
• 10:45 am: City Park Lot in Downtown Derby, where Mayor Marc Garofalo will introduce the project. DeVillars will speak here also.
• 11:45 am: Seymour Landfill.
• 12:15 pm: Lunch at MPI at Seymour Industrial Park.
• 1 pm: Major announcement at the Bridgeport Regional Vocational Aquaculture School on St. Stephens Road in Bridgeport.
• 2 to 4 pm: Meet at Bridgeport City Hall to tour Exmet Property and Swan Engraving; Remington Arms, and Bryant Electric brownfields sites.
