FOR RELEASE: FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 3, 1999

On Tuesday, September 7, 1999, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Carol M. Browner, EPA Region 4 Administrator John H. Hankinson Jr. and James Jacoby, Chairman and CEO of Jacoby Development, Inc. will sign an unprecedented agreement for a new multi-use, urban revitalization development at the former Atlantic Steel site in downtown Atlanta. This will be the first major urban redevelopment project in the nation to be approved under Project XL, part of the Clinton/Gore Administration’s programs for regulatory reinvention and improved livability. It is expected to help reduce future problems associated with growing urban sprawl and air pollution.

EVENT: EPA Administrator Browner, EPA Regional Administrator John H. Hankinson and James Jacoby, Chairman and CEO of Jacoby Development, Inc. to sign first Regulatory Reinvention Agreement for the Atlantic Steel XL Project. Other participants will include Atlanta Mayor Bill Campbell; Harold Reheis, Director, Georgia Environment Protection; Rick Simonetta, General Manager, MARTA; W. Daniel Faulk, Post Properties and Dennis Creech, Southface Energy.

WHEN: Tuesday, September 7, 1999
11:00 a.m. (Registration begins at 10:30 a.m.)

WHERE: Former Atlantic Steel site in midtown Atlanta. The site is bordered by the downtown connector on the east, Deering Street on the north and 16^th Street on the south. Enter property at 16^th and Mecaslin Streets. Parking will be available at the entrance.
