WILMINGTON - The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has awarded a $12,360 grant to the Delaware Ecumenical Council on Children and Families to increase awareness on air pollution issues associated with children’s and families’ health.

The council will set up a statewide conference to teach clergy and other congregational representatives about health issues affected by air pollution so that they can go back to their congregations and relay the information to children and the general public.

“Through the faith community and individual congregations, this program will teach children and overall public about some of the serious health issues associated with air pollution, and make people more aware of what they can do to help protect the environment,” said Bradley Campbell, regional administrator for EPA’s mid-Atlantic region.

EPA’s education grant program is designed to stimulate grass-roots environmental education. Nationally, EPA awarded more than $2.3 million in environmental education grants in 2000 to schools, civic groups and non-profit organizations.
