EPA Hearings Seek Public Comment on Proposed Exceptional Events Rule

(4/13/06) EPA will hold public hearings Tuesday, April 18, 2006 and Tuesday, April 25, 2006 on an agency proposal to exclude air quality data that violate a national air quality standard if a state adequately demonstrates that an "exceptional event" has caused the violation. Wildfires and burning of debris from destructive storms are examples of exceptional events.

The hearings will be held in Research Triangle Park, N.C., and Denver at the following locations:

Both hearings begin at 9 a.m. (local time) and continue to 5 p.m. Speakers may register at each hearing until 2 p.m. local time. If no one has signed up to speak by 2 p.m., EPA may close the hearing early.

EPA also will take written comment on the proposed rule until May 10, 2006.
