Demolition of Saraland Apartments Located on Redwing Carriers Superfund Site in Saraland, Ala., to Begin

The United States Environmental Protection Agency announced today the start of the demolition of the Saraland Apartments located on the Redwing Carriers Superfund Site in Saraland, Alabama. Removal of the apartment buildings is part of ongoing remedial activities at the site. Demolition of the first building will begin Tuesday, March 30, 2004.
The Redwing Carriers, Inc. site is approximately 5.1 acres. Prior to the construction of the apartments in 1973, the site was used as a trucking terminal. The site was placed on the National Priorities List of hazardous waste sites in 1990.
