WHAT: U.S. EPA is holding a media briefing for Troy and Dayton area media to discuss the most recent findings at this site. EPA and Ohio EPA have documented high levels of volatile organic compound fumes at 12 locations in Troy, Ohio. The chemical, which appears to be a dry cleaning fluid known as PCE (tetrachloroethylene) is present in soil beneath eight homes, as well as two schools, a church and the city police station.
The current PCE levels won't cause immediate illness, but are high enough to be of long-term concern. EPA, state and local officials are evaluating various short- and long-term options to address the situation.
