LEIGH TOWNSHIP, Pa. - The U. S. Environmental Protection Agency today announced that it has cited Bruce Lack of Danielsville, Pa., owner of the Woodstone Golf Course in Leigh Township, Pa., for unlawfully filling in wetlands in the Northampton County golf course.
In the administrative complaint, EPA alleges that Mr. Lack violated the Clean Water Act by filling in .47 acres of wetlands on the golf course grounds between November 1997 and February 1998.
Under the Clean Water Act, an Army Corps of Engineers permit is required before dredged or fill material may be discharged into wetlands areas. The permit requirement is designed to minimize the destruction wetlands. EPA’s complaint alleges that Mr. Lack filled in the wetlands without a permit.
EPA seeks a $16,500 penalty for this violation. Mr. Lack has the right to a hearing to contest the alleged violations and proposed penalties.
Wetlands serve a number of critical environmental and economic functions, including flood control, water filtration, and wildlife habitat.
