PHILADELPHIA - The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has partnered with KYW Channel 3 in Philadelphia for a Delaware Watershed education website that will provide news, weather and watershed education. The website can be linked to by visiting www.kyw.com/watershed.
“This website is a wonderful educational tool, exploring at all levels where our water comes from, how it ends up here in the tri-state area and also what we can do to continue to protect the water in our own backyards,” said Donald S. Welsh, regional administrator for EPA’s mid-Atlantic region. “Once individuals become aware of and interested in their watershed, they often become more involved in decision-making as well as hands-on protection and restoration efforts.”
Along with the website, KYW-TV’s chief meteorologist Kathy Orr is reporting on watershed issues throughout the year ahead during the station’s weather segments.
The watershed project is a public-private partnership and is funded through an EPA grant that was awarded to the National Environmental Education Training Foundation. Other partners include the Philadelphia Water Department and the U.S. Department of Agriculture - Forest Service.
The Delaware watershed is the area drained by the Delaware River and its tributaries. It includes portions of Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York, Delaware, and a small segment of northeastern Maryland.
