Boston - EPA New England is holding a public information meeting in Plymouth, Maine to discuss its proposed groundwater cleanup plan for the Hows Corner Superfund Site in Plymouth. After careful study of the site conditions, EPA is proposing to:
- Prevent highly contaminated groundwater from migrating beyond the 2-acre fenced area of the site by installing a groundwater containment system.
- Monitor groundwater to track changes in contaminant concentrations and ensure that the groundwater contaminant plume is not expanding.
- Provide public water in the event that sampling of residential wells shows unacceptable risk from contamination.
- Establish controls to restrict public access to contaminated groundwater.
- Evaluate the cleanup proposal to confirm that it is protective of human health and the environment.
