Chance Inc. of Paris, Texas, will receive an Environmental Education Grant of $5,900 from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). Chance will educate low-income families about environmental health issues during routine home visits. Chance staffers will inform parents about pest control, safe pesticide use, preventing lead and carbon monoxide poisoning and reducing exposure to radon, mercury, asbestos, secondhand smoke and poisonous plants.
"Children are our most precious resource. This grant will give parents the tools and information they need to make sound decisions to protect their families," Regional Administrator Gregg Cooke said.
This year EPA received more than 70 entries from Arkansas, Louisiana, New Mexico, Oklahoma and Texas. Fifteen groups were selected to receive nearly $150,000 in Environmental Education grants.
Since 1992, EPA has distributed more than $2 million annually through about 1,700 grants. More information about Environmental Education grants and information on applying for grants to be awarded in 2000 is available on EPA's web site at
https://www.epa.gov/enviroed/grants.html or by calling the Region 6 coordinator at (214) 665-2204 or at 1-800-887-6063.
