New England Water Environment Association Recognized for Outstanding Service

(Boston, Mass. – Feb. 19, 2014) – The New England Water Environment Association (NEWEA), based in Woburn, Mass., was recently honored with the "2013 Regional Wastewater Association Excellence Award" by EPA.

The EPA Regional Wastewater Excellence Awards Program recognizes municipal personnel in the wastewater field who have provided invaluable public service operating wastewater treatment facilities throughout New England. In addition, EPA recognizes those groups and entities promoting and advocating for the wastewater profession, such as NEWEA, to further protect water quality and public health.

NEWEA, a member association of the internationally renowned Water Environment Federation, is an organization comprised of over 2600 members consisting of municipal and industrial wastewater treatment operators and officials, consultant engineers, state and federal regulatory officials, students, and a wide range of water and wastewater professionals from all six New England states. It is a not-for profit organization established in 1929 whose objective is the advancement of fundamental knowledge and technology of design, construction, operation and management of wastewater treatment and other water pollution control endeavors dedicated to preserving water quality and water resources.

NEWEA’s member volunteers devote countless hours to tackle issues facing the wastewater profession and the industry’s current and future needs. NEWEA helps provide cutting edge technology transfer; promotes training opportunities for wastewater treatment professionals; promotes educational opportunities for the public regarding environmental issues; and promotes public awareness programs to enhance the image of wastewater treatment professionals. Their mission to further protect water quality and public health has been accomplished exceedingly well over the years and will be sustained into the future.

"I am proud to acknowledge NEWEA for all of their outstanding member contributions and collaborative efforts to help protect public health and water quality throughout New England.”

NEWEA and its dedicated staff (Executive Director Elizabeth Cutone, Program Coordinator Janice Moran and Office Administrator Linda Austin) were acknowledged by EPA for their exceptional work on January 29th at the annual New England Water Environment Association Conference in Boston.
