EPA ACCEPTING FUNDING PROPOSALS FOR BROWNFIELD PROJECTS

EPA is accepting proposals for funding, to be allocated by April 2002, for new National Brownfields Assessment Pilot projects and for supplemental assistance for existing ones. The Brownfields assessment pilots, each funded up to $200,000 over two years, test assessment models and facilitate coordinated assessment and cleanup efforts at the federal, state and local levels. An additional $50,000 may be awarded to an applicant to assess the contamination of a brownfields site(s) that is or will be used for Greenspace purposes. Greenspace purposes may include: parks, playgrounds, trails, gardens, habitat restoration, open space, and greenspace preservation. The deadline for submitting proposals for the new National Brownfields Assessment Demonstration Pilots is December 10. Proposals also are being accepted for supplemental funding for those projects awarded in FY2000, (before Sept.30, 2000). Application can be made for up to $150,000 for continuance and expansion of brownfield assessment efforts. This supplemental funding will be awarded on a competitive basis. An additional $50,000 may be awarded to an applicant to assess the contamination of a brownfield site that is or will be used for greenspace purposes. Recipients of supplemental assessment pilot funding in FY2001 (after Sept. 30, 2000) are not eligible to apply. The deadline for submitting proposals for the 2002 supplemental assistance is Nov.26.
