House Passage of Everglades Restoration Legislation
10/19/2000
“For the first time in history, we have a comprehensive plan for making the heart of the Everglades pulse once again with clean, abundant water. We are very pleased with the House passage of the Everglades restoration language. This legislation reflects the unprecedented efforts of the Clinton-Gore Administration, the House and Senate, the state of Florida, tribal leaders, the environmental community and agricultural industry, to restore one of America’s greatest natural treasures. We urge Congress to take the final steps necessary to adopt this legislation and ensure that Everglades restoration becomes a reality.”
The legislation includes critical provisions for restoring one of America’s greatest natural treasures, the Everglades. This Everglades legislation, a top environmental priority of the Clinton-Gore Administration, provides a blueprint for a comprehensive plan that will restore, sustain and protect the Everglades. It takes the first critical steps needed to protect water quality, restore the Everglades and provide for urban and other needs of a fast-growing population of South Florida.
