The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Region 6 will present its prestigious Environmental Excellence Award in the Underground Control Compliance category to Carr Production Company in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Mr. Robert Murphy, Branch Chief in the Region 6 Compliance Enforcement Division, will present the award plaque and an EPA Environmental Excellence flag at a special ceremony on Wednesday, November 19, at 10:00 A.M. in the Osage Multi-Purpose Building, 15th Street and Grandview, Pawhuska, Oklahoma. Charles O. Tillman Jr., Principal Chief, Osage Tribe of Indians, will present the opening remarks.
EPA Acting Regional Administrator Jerry Clifford stated, "I am extremely pleased that Carr Production Company, a small operation with limited resources, is being recognized for its outstanding compliance history with no violations of EPA's Underground Injection Control program. The company's operation and maintenance of its oil lease in Osage country has been exemplary, despite financial pressures on producers of marginal oil leases with limited income and high maintenance expenses."
Principal Chief Tillman stated, "The Osage tribe appreciates Carr Production's commitment to environmental excellence in the Osage which is demonstrated by the care the company takes to be in full compliance with Underground Injection Control regulations. Also, the Osage Tribe applauds the efforts of Carr Production Company to maintain immaculate and safe lease and production facilities. We are proud that the Environmental Protection Agency Region 6 has chosen one of our Osage marginal well producers to receive the prestigious 1997 EPA Environmental Excellence Award for Underground Injection Control Compliance."
The Environmental Excellence Award for Underground Injection Control Compliance was created to highlight the important role of Class II injection well operators in protecting the underground sources of drinking water. Class II injection wells are used to dispose of fluids, most often saltwater, associated with oil and natural gas production. The wells inject these fluids into underground geologic formations where they will not harm the environment.
EPA's Environmental Excellence Awards program is in its 12th year recognizing outstanding contributions in environmental protection in the Region 6 states of Arkansas, Louisiana, New Mexico, Oklahoma, and Texas.
