EPA announced last week the selection of eight RCRA Brownfields-Targeted Site Efforts (TSE) projects. TSE projects are an outgrowth from the first round of the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) Brownfields Prevention Initiative Pilots that showed there are many RCRA sites that are close to being cleaned up and redeveloped. However, they need a boost to carry a facility to the next level of cleanup, consensus or appropriate closure. TSE projects provide for a quick infusion of attention and support to leap those barriers and provide significant environmental improvement in a short time frame. At these TSE projects, EPA Regional Offices will provide technical assistance for stakeholder outreach, community involvement, or additional sampling. EPA expects to publish the outcome of these projects by the Summer of 2002. The selected projects include: Forestville Industrial Plating, Southington, Conn.; Gaston Copper Recycling Corporation, Gaston, S.C.; Muskegon Heights-Safety Kleen, Muskegon Heights, Mich.; Cyril PetroChemical Corporation, Cyril, Okla.; Chemical Recovery Corporation, Kansas City, Mo.; Milt Adams, Inc., Commerce City, Colo.; STEDCO Mill, Confederate Tribes of the Siletz, Ore.; and Philip Services Corporation, Seattle, Wash.
