EPA Awards $500,000 Public Information Grant to Tulsa, OK

    The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) recently awarded the city of Tulsa a $500,000 Environmental Monitoring for Public Access and Community Tracking (EMPACT) grant to fund the Tulsa Air and Water Quality Information System.

     "EPA's EMPACT program helps communities across the country provide timely, accurate and understandable environmental information to citizens so that they can make informed decisions about their daily lives. It is extraordinary that so many parts of the Tulsa community are working together to ensure this vital information is available to their citizens and families," EPA Regional Administrator Gregg Cooke said.

     The Tulsa Air and Water Quality Information System will supply environmental information, promote public awareness about the environment and provide educational programs to the citizens of the Tulsa metropolitan area.

     Tulsa's project is a cooperative effort between the city of Tulsa, the Indian Nations Council of Governments, the Oklahoma Department of Environmental Quality, the U.S. Geological Survey, the University of Tulsa, the University of Oklahoma's Climatological Survey, the Tulsa National Weather Service and the Allergy Clinic of Tulsa.
