(DALLAS – October 8, 2010) The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) awarded nearly $700,000 to Arkansas and Oklahoma to administer their state’s pesticide regulatory program. The projects will help fund different pesticide programs within the states. The programs include: enforcement, applicator certification, worker protection standards, pesticides in water, endangered species and implementation of the new Container/Containment Rule.
Arkansas received $348,098 to administer its programs and Oklahoma $348,660. EPA delegates responsibility of pesticide misuse to state and tribal agencies through a cooperative agreement under the Federal Insecticide, Fungicide and Rodenticide Act (FIFRA). EPA provides outreach to consumers and communities to help states with pesticide compliance and enforcement.
