PHILADELPHIA - On Wednesday, September 23, 1998, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency will hold its annual Energy Efficiency Conference and Awards Ceremony at Crown, Cork & Seal Company in Northeast Philadelphia.

Attendees will hear the latest trends in energy efficiency from the Public Utility Commission, Philadelphia’s Municipal Energy Office, Public Service Electric and Gas Company and Crown Cork and Seal Company.  The event will also honor participants in the Energy Star Buildings and Green Lights Partnership.

"We are proud to be part of an event that recognizes the great strides which our partners are making toward energy efficiency.  It is great to see the continued dedication of companies like Crown, Cork & Seal who participate in these innovative programs.  Energy Star Programs are a chance to make a difference while making sound business investments," said EPA Regional Administrator W. Michael McCabe.

During the conference, Pennsylvania Power & Light will be inducted into the Landfill Methane Outreach Program, one of EPA’s many Energy Star programs, by co-signing a memorandum of understanding with EPA.  This program shows companies, utilities, and communities how to capture landfill gas and convert it to energy.

The Energy Star Partnerships are voluntary programs that reduce pollution by promoting energy efficient lighting and building systems and innovative uses for energy sources.  Partners include corporations, utilities, non-profit organizations, and state and local governments that invest in energy-efficient technology.  The results are financial savings for the partners and less pollution for the planet.  More than 2,700 organizations have joined the Energy Star Buildings and Green Lights Programs receiving an average 35% return on their investment in energy efficiency.  Over 500 of these partners are located in the mid-Atlantic region.
