EPA TO HOLD PUBLIC AVAILABILITY SESSION REGARDING THE ROSS METALS SITE IN ROSSVILLE, TENNESSEE

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency will hold a public availability session on Feruary 10, 2000 in Rossville, Tennessee to discuss the potential impact of the “Superfund Recycling Equity Act of 1999" on cleanup activities at the Ross Metals Superfund site.
The availability session will be held from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. in the cafeteria at Rossville Christian Academy, 280 High Street in Rossville. EPA officials will be available to provide information, answer questions, and address concerns regarding the site. All interested persons are encouraged to attend. Ross Metals Superfund site consists of approximately 15 acreas on a 200-acre parcel of land owned by Ross Metals, Inc. From 1979 to 1992, Ross Metals operated as a secondary lead smelter and manufactured refined alloys from lead-bearing scrap materials. The primary scrap material used for this process was spent lead-acid batteries. Automotive and industrial batteries accounted for approximately 80 percent of the raw material processed. The other remaining 20 percent consisted of other lead-bearing materials such as lead plates, lead oxide, scrap metal and other lead waste from various business and industry. |
