The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency will hold a public meeting to discuss the proposed plan for cleanup of site FT017 at Tyndall Air Force Base (TAFB) in Panama City, Florida on Thursday, October 3, 2002. The public meeting will begin at 6:00 pm in Student Union East, Room 243 at Gulf Coast Community College, 5230 West Highway 98 in Panama City. EPA representatives will discuss the investigation and preferred cleanup remedy. All interested persons are encouraged to attend the meeting.
A thirty (30) day public comment period will begin October 1, 2002 and will end midnight October 30, 2002. During the comment period, EPA will accept comments pertaining to the proposed plan. Comments should be submitted to: IRP Manager, Tyndall Air Force Base CES/CEV, 325 CES/CEV, 119 Alabama Avenue, Tyndall AFB, Florida 32403. The site is south of Taxiway I and north of Highway 98 on the TAFB property. The site was used from 1952 to 1968 as a fire training exercise area and for storage of oil-filled electric transformers containing polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs). In addition, two 20,000-gallon underground storage tanks (USTs) were used to store petroleum, oil, and lubricant material used for firefighting simulations. Reportedly, the storage tanks were excavated and removed from the site in 1968. |
