Microban Systems Settles Pesticides Violations

PHILADELPHIA – Microban Systems, Inc., of Braddock, Pa.. has agreed to pay a $46,200 penalty to settle alleged violations of federal pesticide regulations, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency announced today.

EPA cited the company for violating the Federal Insecticide, Fungicide, and Rodenticide Act (FIFRA), which requires the registration and proper labeling of pesticide products. FIFRA also prohibits the marketing of misbranded, improperly labeled, or adulterated pesticides.

EPA alleged that Microban violated FIFRA by selling two unregistered pesticide products called Microban’s Hospital Deodorizer and Microban Miracle CA-570. EPA also cited the company for selling an adulterated pesticide product, Microban’s X-580. According to lab results, this product contained an active ingredient (0.10% d-trans Allethrin) that was different from that identified on the label (0.10% Pyrethrins).

As part of the settlement, the company neither admitted nor denied liability for the alleged violations. The company has agreed to update its environmental management system to avoid future violations of FIFRA requirements.
