(Boston, Mass. – June 30, 2008) The United States Environmental Protection Agency has reached settlement with three parties for costs incurred for the cleanup at the Elite Laundry Superfund Site located at 27 Laundry Road in Jaffrey, New Hampshire.

The New Hampshire Department of Environmental Services (NH DES) requested EPA assistance at the site resulting from a 2001 fire at this former laundry and dry cleaning facility. The NH DES had previously excavated a portion of tetrachloroethene contaminated soil and requested EPA’s involvement to continue cleanup. Between the months of June and November of 2002, EPA removed 1,018 tons of contaminated soil from the site.

The site is comprised of the former Elite Laundry Facility and a small parcel that is part of a former Railroad Right of Way. The Settling Parties are Route 202 at Route 124 Jaffrey, New Hampshire, LLC; Rared Jaffrey, LLC; and Guilford Transportation, past and current owners or operators of the decommissioned railway bed.

The parties will pay equal amounts of $56,250 to EPA and the NH DES.
