Corrected News Release: EPA accepting comments on Team Completions request for waste injection well permit
A clarification is necessary in the first paragraph where it states that comments will be accepted on a Team Completion LLC request to change its exiting permit to dispose of non-hazardous waste deep underground at its Kalkaska, Mich., facility. The requested underground well would be located near Kingsley in Grand Traverse County. EPA regrets the error.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
No. 10-OPA22
Chicago (March 4, 2010) -- U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Region 5 will accept public comments until April 23 on a Team Completions LLC request to change its existing permit to dispose of non-hazardous waste deep underground at its Kalkaska, Mich., facility.
Team Completions currently operates a commercial underground injection well in which it disposes of brine from oil and gas wells. The company also wants to inject what is known as “leachate,” a non-hazardous liquid waste from landfills.
After reviewing the request, EPA found the company has shown that injected waste will not threaten underground sources of drinking water. Therefore, EPA plans to grant the permit request.
An open house will be held from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m., Wednesday, April 7, at Mill Creek Elementary School, 9039 Old M-72, Williamsburg, Mich., with a public hearing to follow from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. The permit will be valid for 10 years.
For questions and additional information contact William Bates, 312-886-6110, [email protected] or, call EPA Region 5 toll-free at 800-621-8431, 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. weekdays. Draft documents are available at the Traverse Area District Library, 610 Woodmere, Traverse City, and on EPA’s Web site at https://www.epa.gov/region5/water/uic/uicpub.htm.
