COMMENT PERIOD BEGINS FOR THE PROPOSED CONSENT DECREE BETWEEN THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT, PHARMACIA CORPORATION AND SOLUTIA, INC.

Public Information Availability Sessions To Be Held on April 16, 2002 The U. S. Justice Department (DOJ) and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency announced today the start of the official public comment period for the proposed Consent Decree with Pharmacia Corporation and Solutia, Inc. DOJ will receive comments relating to the proposed Decree for a period of sixty (60) days beginning April 4, 2002 until June 3, 2002. Comments should be addressed to: Assistant Attorney General for the Environment and Natural Resources U. S. Department of Justice P.O. Box 7611 Washington, D.C. 20044 All comments should refer to United States v. Pharmacia Corporation (p/k/a) Monsanto Company and Solutia, Inc., D.J. Ref. 90-11-2-07135/1. The proposed consent decree is available for public review at the following locations: Office of the United States Attorney, Northern District of Alabama, 1801 4th Avenue, North, Birmingham, Alabama 35203, EPA Region 4, Atlanta Federal Center, 61 Forsyth Street, S.W., Atlanta, Georgia 30303, the Anniston-Calhoun County Public Library, 108 E. 10th Street, Anniston and the EPA Community Relations Center, 1313 Noble Street in Anniston. The Consent Decree also is available for review on EPA's website at www.epa.gov/region4/waste/npl/nplal/annpcbal.htm. EPA will hold two public information availability sessions on Tuesday, April 16, 2002 at the Carver Community Center (Gymnasium), 720 West 14th Street in Anniston. The first session will be held from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and the second session will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Officials from EPA, DOJ, the Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry (ATSDR) and state and local agencies will be available during both sessions to provide information, answer questions, and address concerns about the Consent Decree. All interested persons are encouraged to attend.
