NEBRASKA WASTEWATER TREATMENT MANAGER PLEADS GUILTY
Jeffrey J. Frey, Nebraska Regional Manager for PeopleService Inc., pleaded guilty on Feb. 16, in U.S. District Court in Omaha to violating the Clean Water Act and to making false statements to EPA and the Nebraska Department of Environmental Quality (NDEQ). The charges against Frey state that between June 1995 and April 1997 he filed false discharge monitoring reports for sewage treatment systems that he managed for PeopleService. The charges further state that the filing of these false reports allowed the defendant to defraud PeopleService clients of $350,000. Frey faces a sentence of up to seven years in prison and/ or a fine up to $500,000. The case was investigated by EPA=s Criminal Investigation Division, NDEQ, the Nebraska State Patrol and the Nebraska Attorney General=s Office. It was prosecuted by the Environmental Crimes Section of the U.S. Department of Justice and by the U.S. Attorney=s Office for the District of Nebraska in Omaha.
