Bullskin/Connellsville Get EPA Grant To Construct Sewage System

BULLSKIN TOWNSHIP, Pa. - The U. S. Environmental Protection Agency announced today it has awarded a $2.5 million grant to the Bullskin/Connellsville Joint Sewer Authority. The grant will be used to construct a sewage collection system and pump stations in the Route 119 Corridor of Fayette County, Pa.

A number of the townships’ residential and commercial properties currently have failing on-lot septic systems, resulting in the discharge of untreated wastewater into yards, roads, ditches and ultimately local surface waters. These conditions pose a serious threat to health, safety and the environment.

The proposed collection system will service the Bullskin and Connellsville Township’s Route 19 Corridor and convey wastewater to the existing Connellsville Municipal Authority Wastewater Treatment facility. Construction is expected to begin March 2000.

"Many people take good water for granted, but effective wastewater treatment is essential for improving and maintaining water quality," said EPA Regional Administrator W. Michael McCabe.

Funding for this project is provided under EPA’s portion of the Departments of Veterans Affairs and Housing and Urban Development, and Independent Agencies Appropriations Act. The funds are awarded to economically stressed areas where wastewater treatment is necessary for the health and safety of the community.
