EASTON, Md. -- The Chesapeake Audubon Society has received a $3,962 grant from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency to present a series of workshops for disadvantaged children at the Pickering Creek Environmental Center in Talbot County.
Funding will be used to support ecology classes that will introduce children to environmental careers. Students participating will mostly come from Baltimore city neighborhoods where they have little contact with nature.
“This type of training program will provide positive outdoor experiences for children that enrich their lives and educate them about the difference they can make in the Chesapeake Bay ecosystem,” said Bradley Campbell, regional administrator for EPA’s mid-Atlantic region.
EPA’s education grant program is designed to stimulate grass-roots environmental education. Nationally, EPA awarded more than $2.3 million in environmental education grants in 2000 to schools, civic groups and non-profit organizations.
