(01/29/04) On Jan. 30, EPA’s proposed rules for reducing emissions from power plants will be published in the Federal Register. These rules would significantly reduce emissions of sulfur dioxide (SO2), nitrogen oxides (NOx), and mercury from power plants. Publication in the Federal Register marks the beginning of a 60 day comment period. EPA will accept public comments on both the proposed Interstate Air Quality Rule and proposed Utility Mercury Reductions Rule. The public hearings will be held on Feb. 25-26, in Philadelphia, Pa.; Chicago, Ill. and Research Triangle Park, N.C. Details about each hearing location will be published shortly in the Federal Register.
