Billerica, Mass. Wastewater Treatment Plant Superintendent Recognized for Outstanding Service

(Boston, Mass. – Feb. 19, 2014) – Lorraine Sander, Superintendent of the Billerica, Mass. Wastewater Treatment Plant, was honored by EPA with a "2013 Regional Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator Excellence Award" recently. Ms. Sander was selected for the recognition because of the outstanding job she has performed over the years in operating and maintaining the Billerica facility.

The EPA Regional Wastewater Awards Program recognizes personnel in the wastewater field who have provided important public service managing and operating wastewater treatment facilities throughout New England. A number of local and state wastewater professionals were instrumental in Ms. Sander's nomination. In addition, Ms. Sander is being acknowledged for her outstanding mentorship for many wastewater professionals in the field.

“The professionals operating these wastewater treatment plants, as well as the municipalities and the state environmental agencies that support them, are essential to keeping our environment healthy by protecting water quality. EPA is proud to acknowledge Ms. Sander's outstanding contributions to help protect public health and water quality for so many years and to give him the credit he deserves,” said Curt Spalding, regional administrator of EPA's New England Office.
