The United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) today announced that it has completed a Superfund hazardous substances removal at the Fuller Road Drum site in Gainesville, Hall County, Georgia. A removal is a short-term cleanup intended to stabilize or clean up a site that poses an imminent and substantial threat to human health or the environment. The removal was completed under the authority and direction of the Agency's Emergency Response and Removal Branch.
The removal included: hazard categorization testing; sampling for waste profile analysis; over-packing of damaged or corroded drums; transportation to the Hall County Department of Transportation yard until disposal was arranged; and final disposal at an approved off-site facility. The Fuller Road Drum site is on a rural dirt road located approximately 3/10 mile into Hall County off U.S. Highway 129 in Gainesville. The substances included more than 300 gallons of what was determined to be flammable liquids. The site was referred to EPA by the Gainesville-Hall County Enforcement Division. The Administrative Record file, containing documents that form the basis for selection of the removal action, is available for public review during normal business hours at the following location: U.S. EPA Records Center - Region 4 The Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act (CERCLA, also known as Superfund) and the Superfund Amendments and Reauthorization (SARA) authorize EPA to respond to actual or threatened releases of hazardous substances that may endanger public health, welfare or the environment. |
