EPA PROPOSES NEW SITES ON THE SUPERFUND NATIONAL PRIORITIES LIST
EPA is proposing eight new sites to the National Priorities List (NPL) and adding six. The NPL informs the public of uncontrolled hazardous waste sites that warrant further investigation to determine if they pose risks to human health and the environment. Sites that are placed on the NPL are eligible for long-term “remedial action” financed under the Superfund Trust Fund. The proposed sites are: Solitron Microwave, Port Salerno, Fla.; Camilla Wood Preserving Co., Camilla, Ga.; Sharon Steel Corp. (Farrell Works Disposal Area), Hickory Township, Penn.; Jasper Creosoting Co. Inc., Jasper County, Texas; Rockwool Industries Co.Inc., Bell County, Texas; the State Marine of Port Arthur, Jefferson County, Texas; Norfolk Naval Shipyard, Portsmouth, Va.; and Washington Navy Yard, Washington, D.C. The sites added to the NPL include: Florida Petroleum Reprocessors, Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; Cam-Or Inc., Westville, Ind.; Puchack Well Field, Pennsauken Township, N.J.; Zschiegner Refining, Howell Township, N.J.; Fulton Avenue, North Hempstead, N.Y.; and Peter Cooper, Gowanda, N.Y. Copies of the updated NPL or site descriptions, contact the RCRA/Superfund Hotline at 1-800-424-9346 or 703-412-9810. The information also can be accessed through the Superfund home page under the Site Information Section at https://www.epa.gov/superfund.
