EPA Awards Over $100,000 to the Absentee Shawnee Tribe for its Brownfields Program

(Dallas, Texas – December 13, 2007) The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has awarded $120,215 to the Absentee Shawnee Tribe of Indians of Oklahoma for its Brownfields program. Brownfields are vacant, abandoned, or under-used properties where redevelopment may be complicated by the presence or potential presence of environmental contamination. Tribal staff will assist eligible parties in identifying the presence of contamination and plan for cleanup if contaminants are found.
