EPA PROPOSES 11 NEW SITES AND ADDS 17 SITES TO THE NATIONAL PRIORITIES LIST
The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is proposing to add 11 sites and adding 17 sites to the National Priorities List (NPL). The primary purpose of the NPL is to guide the EPA in determining which sites warrant further investigation. Currently there are a total of 59 proposed and 1,206 final sites on the NPL. The 11 proposed sites are located in eight states. The sites include: American Brass, Inc., Headland, Ala.; Vasquez Boulevard and I-70, Denver, Colo.; Central Wood Preserving Co., Slaughter, La.; Ruston Foundry, Alexandria, La.; 68th Street Dump/Industrial Enterprises, Rosedale, Md.; Armour Road, North Kansas City, Mo.; Newton County Wells, Newton County, Mo.; Pools Prairie, Neosho, Mo.; Georgia-Pacific Corporation Hardwood Sawmill, Plymouth, N.C.; Stanton Cleaners Area Ground Water Contamination, Great Neck, N.Y.; and Former Nansemond Ordnance Depot, Suffolk, Va. The 17 final sites being added to the NPL are located in 10 states. The sites being added to the NPL include: Lava Cap Mine, Nevada City, Calif.; Omega Chemical Corp., Whittier, Calif.; Pemaco Maywood, Maywood, Calif.; Delatte Metals, Ponchatoula, La.; Fridley Commons Park Well Field, Fridley, Minn.; Davis Park Road TCE, Gastonia, N.C.; North Railroad Avenue Plume, Espanola, N.M.; Federal Creosote, Manville Borough, N.J.; Hiteman Leather, West Winfield, N.Y.; Lehigh Valley Railroad, Le Roy, N.Y.; Mohonk Road Industrial Plant, High Falls, N.Y.; Smithtown Ground Water Contamination, Smithtown, N.Y.; Tulsa Fuel and Manufacturing, Collinsville, Okla.; City of Perryton Well No. 2, Perryton, Texas; Many Diversified Interests, Inc., Houston, Texas; and Pownal Tannery, Pownal, Vt. The one federal facility added to the NPL is the Middlesex Sampling Plant (USDOE), Middlesex, N.J.
