EPA awards $307,500 grant to Barbour County for sewer and drinking water lines

PHILADELPHIA - The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has awarded a $307,500 grant to the Barbour County Development Authority in Belington, West Virginia, to help pay for new sewer lines, drinking water lines, and a 150,000-gallon water storage tank to serve the Belington Industrial Park

These new systems are an extension of existing wastewater and drinking water systems owned and operated by the City of Belington adjacent to the industrial park.

“This funding will help provide tenants at the industrial park with a safe, potable water system, and a means to dispose and treat wastewater from the park,” said Donald Welsh, regional administrator for EPA’s mid-Atlantic region.

Without the new systems, sewage from the park would have to be treated by a septic tank system, which have been found to be inadequate for this area, and would impact drinking water drinking water to the tenants.

The grant will pay for 55 percent of the estimated $560,000 project cost.
