VOLUNTARY ENVIRONMENTAL
IMPROVEMENTS PLANNED AT SKI AREAS
On June 14, EPA will join the National Ski Areas Association to assist the industry’s efforts to exceed environmental compliance requirements. The voluntary industry initiative establishes a set of principles for a broad range of environmental improvements in areas such as air quality and waste management. To support the initiative, EPA will provide technical assistance from existing voluntary partnership programs such as the Water Alliance for Voluntary Efficiency, the WasteWise program dealing with solid waste, the Energy Star program that promotes energy efficiency, smart growth and development efforts and support potential demonstration projects to test environmental management systems and transportation alternatives. Several other Federal agencies and non-profit organizations will work with the ski area industry in similar partnerships. For more information, go to: www.epa.gov/ispd/travtour.htm .
