(Denver, Colo. -- May 29, 2008) The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency today announced it will begin cleanup work on the Billings PCE Site in June. Crews will excavate contaminated soil beneath the city storm drain on the west side of Central Avenue. The soil is contaminating groundwater with the dry cleaning solvent tetrachloroethylene (PCE).
During the removal activities, EPA will monitor the air for vapor emissions from the excavation site to ensure that concentrations of PCE are maintained at safe levels.
EPA is aware that the remediation activity may be an inconvenience to area residents, business owners and patrons and will do everything possible to lessen the impact.
EPA is committed to cleaning up the PCE plume contamination in Billings as completely, quickly and safely as possible.
