PHILADELPHIA (September 27, 2007) - - EPA encourages you to put your house on an energy diet. You can start by replacing light bulbs with ENERGY STAR light bulbs. ENERGY STAR lights are compact fluorescent lights with the ENERGY STAR logo.

These lights use a one-third the energy of traditional lighting and last six to 10 times longer.

Using an ENERGY STAR light can prevent 500 pounds of greenhouse gas emissions - - as good for our environment as not driving for two weeks.

If you can, get your family or classroom to log into EPA’s website and make a pledge to change a light today. The site tracks how much electricity is saved and how much greenhouse gas emissions are prevented. Shop smart and be a part of saving energy one step at a time.

Next week is the start of EPA's ENERGY STAR Change a Light Day campaign and pledge drive. To find out more, and to take the pledge, go to EPA’s website at http://www.energystar.gov/index.cfm?fuseaction=cal.showpledge&cpd_id=582 or search using EPA Change a Light Pledge.
