(CHICAGO – April 5, 2010) Tomorrow, April 6, at 12:30 p.m., U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Region 5 and Indiana Department of Environmental Management will announce the start of 2010 cleanup work at Evansville, Ind.’s, Jacobsville Neighborhood Superfund site. A briefing will be held at a vacant lot slated for redevelopment on the 100 block of West Michigan Street. Evansville Mayor Jonathan Weinzapfel will also take part in the briefing. Construction equipment will be visible.
The 2010 work involves cleanup of about 300 lead-contaminated properties and is being funded through at least $5 million from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009. There is no cost to residents.
