PHILADELPHIA – The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has awarded a $3.1 million grant to City of Thomas, Tucker County, W. Va. to improve it’s drinking water.
The current water system, which serves 326 residential customers and 49 commercial customers, has been plagued by leaks, inadequate pressure, insufficient fire protection, and excessive maintenance costs.
The grant will be used to design and construct new water lines, fire hydrants, valves, and meters, and to rehabilitate the water treatment plant.
“Water infrastructure projects like this play a major role in ensuring the health and safety of our citizens and a better quality of life. This project will restore safe, reliable drinking water service to the residents of Thomas, ” said Donald S. Welsh, regional administrator for EPA’s mid-Atlantic region.
