Bucks County Machine Shop and its Former General Manager Plead Guilty to Discharging Pollutants into Public Sewer System

PHILADELPHIA – Robert Perkins, former general manager of KAM Industries, Inc., has pleaded guilty before federal Judge John Padova in Eastern District Court to one count of making false statements and two counts of violating the Clean Water Act.

The attorney for Kam Industries, Inc., formerly located at 202 Titus Ave., Warrington, also entered guilty pleas in federal court to the same charges on behalf of his client.

Sentencing for both defendants is set for 9:30 a.m. on June 6, 2001 in courtroom 6A.

Perkins, a resident of Horsham, was charged with falsely stating on a permit application that no chemical compounds containing metals or inorganics would be discharged into the Warminster Publicly-Owned Treatment Works, when, in fact, he knew that these types of pollutants would be discharged.

KAM Industries, Inc., a machine shop manufacturing steel and aluminum machine parts, is charged with discharging pollutants into the public sewer system between Dec. 1, 1998 and May, 1999.

Perkins could receive a maximum sentence of 11 years in prison, a fine of $750,000, three years probation and $300 in court costs.

KAM Industries, Inc. could receive a maximum sentence of five years probation, a $1.5 million fine and $1,200 in court costs.

The investigation was conducted by EPA’s Criminal Investigation Division, with assistance from the Warminster Township Municipal Authority.
