EPA recognizes two Colorado Springs School Districts for improving energy efficiency and protecting the environment

Denver -- The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Region 8 has recognized the Colorado Springs School District 11 and Academy School District 20, both in Colorado Springs, as two of 18 organizations nationwide named as ENERGY STAR^® Leaders for demonstrating superior energy management and environmental leadership.

ENERGY STAR partners who demonstrate continuous improvement in energy efficiency – not just in individual buildings, but organization-wide – qualify for EPA’s new ENERGY STAR Leaders recognition. EPA designates ENERGY STAR Leaders based on an organization’s actual energy efficiency as measured using EPA’s energy performance rating system. The rating system provides an objective, standardized approach for measuring the efficiency of an entire building, or building portfolio, on a 100-point scale. More than 19,000 buildings across the country have used the rating system to help manage their energy use and reduce costs.

Colorado Springs School District 11 has achieved an energy efficiency improvement of 10 points above its baseline energy efficiency rating. In addition, Academy School District 20 has completed entering its baseline
energy efficiency data and is poised to realize significant energy savings in the future. The organizations recognized today have established an energy efficiency baseline for all their buildings, a critical step in successful
energy management. By managing their energy well, these organizations are showing their leadership, improving their financial performance and helping protect the environment.
