U.S. EPA TO HOLD PUBLIC HEARING ON JACADS PROPOSED PERMIT

(San Francisco) -- The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (U.S. EPA) will hold a public hearing Wednesday, August 27, 1997, to solicit public comment on its draft hazardous waste permit for the Johnston Atoll Chemical Agent Disposal System, about 800 miles southwest of Hawaii.
The meeting will be held at 8 p.m. at the Moiliili Community Center, 2535 S. King St., Honolulu. There will be an informal question and answer session for the public before the hearing from 6:30 to 7:45 p.m.
U.S. EPA is proposing a new permit for the facility, which is operated by the Army, to complete the destruction of the remaining chemical weapons on the island.
