EPA Orders Two Rhode Island Companies to Comply With Air Permit Reporting

BOSTON – The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency today announced it has issued administrative orders to two Rhode Island companies requiring them to comply with reporting requirements for their air emissions permits.

The orders against Brookwood Laminating, Inc. of Peace Dale, R.I., and The Original Bradford Soap Works, Inc., of West Warwick, R.I. stem from multiple instances where they failed to file or been late filing regular reports on their compliance with federal air emissions permits.

"These compliance reports are a key component of permits that ensure clean air for New England residents,"said Robert W. Varney, regional administrator for EPA's New England Office. "Today's order should send a strong signal that regulated facilities need to comply with these reporting requirements."

Federally required air emissions permits (known as ‘Title V' permits under the Clean Air Act describing the permits) include a requirement for semi-annually reporting any violations of permit limits. In Rhode Island, as with the other five New England states, the EPA has delegated authority to issue and enforce air permits to state agencies.
