INDIVIDUAL INDICTED FOR IMPROPER REMOVAL OF ASBESTOS
George Rosado was arraigned in U.S. Southern District Court in New York on Oct. 21 on a one-count indictment charging that he violated the Clean Air Act. The indictment charges that Rosado, a supervisor overseeing asbestos removal at Montefiore Medical Center, caused asbestos material to be stripped without adequately wetting it and did not keep asbestos material that had been removed wet until it was collected and contained in violation of work practice standards. Asbestos is designated by the Clean Air Act as a “hazardous” air pollutant. Asbestos causes a wide range of illnesses, including various forms of cancer and asbestosis, a usually fatal lung disease. This case was investigated by the EPA’s Criminal Investigation Division and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
