En Español [PDF 26 KB, 1 pp] (04134) Vieques, Puerto Rico – Furthering its commitment to creating an open and transparent process during the investigation process of the eastern side of Vieques under the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA), the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) today released its draft Community Involvement Plan (CIP) [Investigación de Campo RCRA de Vieques Plan de Participación Comunitaria] for the project. This plan will guide the Agency's community involvement and public outreach activities on Vieques and outline the mechanisms EPA will use in working with the Navy to keep the public informed about all project activities. The public will be able to view and comment on the plan for thirty days before it is finalized. The plan contains background information about the RCRA investigation and cleanup on Vieques as well as tools the Agency will use in the future to work with community members, island groups, and other stakeholders as the RCRA process continues. The goal of the plan is to provide a blueprint for public communication that meets the community's needs; comments on past and future community involvement collected during community interviews were considered in developing the plan. Interested individuals can view the Community Involvement Plan at the public information repositories located at the EPA offices in San Juan and the Puerto Rico Environmental Quality Board Offices in Hato Rey. Individuals can also request an electronic or hard copy by contacting Daniel Rodriguez at [email protected] or 787-741-5201. Comments should be sent to Brenda Reyes no later than September 25, 2004 at the address below: Environmental Protection Agency |
