DENVER CONCRETE COMPANY AND PRESIDENT CHARGED
WITH DUMPING WASTE
WITH DUMPING WASTE
On April 21, Ready-Mixed, a concrete company located in Denver, Colo., and Frank P. Spratlin IV, president, were charged with seven counts of violating the Clean Water Act in U.S. District Court for the District of Colorado in Denver for allegedly dumping waste into the South Platte River. The charges allege that from 1993-1996, Ready-Mixed illegally dumped waste from its concrete trucks into a storm drain on the company’s property. The drain flows into the South Platte River. The waste reportedly had a high pH and high solid content both of which have the potential to cause significant harm to fish and other aquatic life. If convicted, Ready-Mixed faces a maximum fine of $500,000 per count and Spratlin faces up to three years in prison and/or fines of up to $250,000 per count. The case was investigated by EPA’s Criminal Investigation Division and the FBI with the assistance of EPA’s National Enforcement Investigations Center.R-54 ###
