EPA Administrator Whitman to Convene National Academy of Sciences Workshop on the Differential Susceptibility of Older Persons to Environmental Hazards

(12/04/02) EPA Administrator Christie Whitman will open the National Academies’ (including the National Academy of Sciences and the Institute of Medicine) workshop on the Differential Susceptibility and Exposure of Older Workers to Environmental Hazards on December 5. The day-and a-half conference will include discussions of a new EPA Aging Initiative which will identify key hazards that may affect the health of older persons and help develop practical interventions. The findings from experts at the workshop together with EPA research and input gathered from a series of public meetings being held around the country in Spring 2003 will contribute to the development of a National Agenda on the Environment and the Aging.
