eCycling Comes to Temple University: Computer Recycling Collection Event June 14

PHILADELPHIA - Dell Computer Corporation is supporting EPA’s “lug-in to eCycling”campaign at Temple University. This campaign is to encourage eCycling (electronics recycling).

“I applaud Dell for hosting this eCycling collection event and want to encourage Philadelphians to recycle their outdated personal computers. This is a terrific opportunity to start a new life for those computers that have been collecting dust in your basement or garage,” said Donald S. Welsh, EPA’s mid-Atlantic regional administrator.

The collection will be at Temple University, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday, June 14 at 1601 N. Broad Street in Temple’s visitors’ parking lot, Lot 3. Temple University is two miles north of I-676.

Any brand of computer-related equipment will be accepted at no charge -- computers, computer monitors, keyboards, mice, printers, and other peripherals. Televisions, copiers, cell phones or other household electronics unrelated to your computer cannot be accepted. All electronics will be refurbished and donated or sent on for recycling.

eCycling is the nation’s first-of-a-kind collaboration among the U.S. EPA, state environmental agencies, and the electronics industry to collect, reuse and recycle old computer equipment, televisions, and other electronics.

eCycling keeps dangerous materials such as lead, mercury, cadmium, and chromium out of the environment and saves limited landfill space.

Since October of 2001, eCycling has already collected more than 2,700 tons of electronics from residents in the mid-Atlantic states and has prevented more than 22,000 cathode ray tubes (CRTs) from going into landfills and incinerators.

Please remove all data from your computer's hard drive as well as floppy disks and PC cards.
